Race one featured numerous battles between Kelly Bell-Eric Rude and Rick
Murray-Mark Paget. Eventually the former prevailed with their snowmobile
two stroke engined rig. Frank Riolo-Dennis Crueger was unable to mount
any serious challenge due to Frank's new suit not fitting him properly and
gave him double vision. The Beckers accidentally hit the kill switch at
the start, but managed to recover to finish fourth, barely losing out to
Team Excalibur in an exciting finish. Steve Stull-Teresa Blair and Team
5150's Dave Quinn/Jamie Bowden had a disagreement about real estate space
and Stull ended up in the dirt. Stull recovered, passed a couple of rigs,
but had to pull off just short of the finish as the damage to the chain
was too serious. (and what would turned out to be a close call as the
broken chainlink was about to come through Steve's saddle!). Team Dawg
Pound did well with rookie passenger James Cornell having his first time
out, as well as the Pucketts running their Sunderland. Gary Woolf missed
a couple of corners and cruised to finish last with his home made rig, in
addition to a new (temporarily) passenger. Both Leon Vanorsdale-Bernie
Thomas and Roy Janes-Vince Ho had to retire from the race, the latter
having gear problems.
